Birds-of-a-feather (BOF) groups are encouraged here at BayCHI.
BOF groups are a way for members of BayCHI with common interests
to network with one another:
New! The Consultant BOF is for professionals
in the Bay Area who consult in all areas of human-computer interaction. Students and professionals
who are interested in learning about becoming a consultant are also welcome to participate.
The East Bay BOF is for BayCHI's East
Bay members that find it difficult to attend meetings in the
South Bay. Meetings are held in the East Bay.
The Future Systems BOF explores new technology
that naturally promotes fluid evolutionary growth towards empowering tools and interaction environments.
New! The Interaction Design BOF is for
interaction designers and other professionals who practice or do research
in interaction design.
The Japan BOF is
for all BayCHI members interested in designing, testing, or developing
applications for the Japanese market.
The Java Web Developer BOF is for user interface
engineers who use Java to design and develop web applications.
The Kids’ Media BOF is for producers,
designers, researchers, and practitioners who work with children's
media.
The Mobile Applications BOF is intended
for all BayCHI members interested in designing, testing, or developing
applications for hand-held devices.
The North Bay BOF is for BayCHI's North
Bay members that find it difficult to attend meetings in the
South Bay. Meetings are held in the North Bay.
New! The Open Source Usability BOF is for usability
engineers, human factors engineers, designers/developers of user interfaces,
technical writers, quality assurance engineers and others who affect
open source usability.
The Student BOF is an umbrella organization
for student HCI research/service groups and individuals. The Student BOF also organizes
Mentoring and Apprenticeship Workshops.
The Usability Engineering BOF is for usability
engineers, human factors engineers, designers/developers of user
interfaces, technical writers, quality assurance engineers and
others who affect product usability.
The Web Interface Design BOF is for Web
interface designers.
Each BOF's page includes the latest
information about upcoming activities.
All it takes is one person with the desire to make it happen.
Most of the current BOFs were started through the initiative
of a few individuals. The BayCHI BOF Chair, Mike Van Riper
(mike.vanriper@baychi.org),
is available to help you get started.
The BOF Chair can help with publishing information about
new BOFs on the BayCHI web site and in the monthly newsletter.
He can assist you with planning your initial BOF meeting and setting up
a BOF mailing list. For any kind of new BOF support from BayCHI, he is
the person to contact with the request.
